Vagus Nerve Stimulation |
The vagus nerve controls many autonomic functions- the ones you don’t have to think about- like heart rate, blood pressure and digestion. Many of us find ourselves in a state of stress or “fight or flight” mode (sympathetic response) the majority of the time. In order to be able to relax or “rest and digest,” we need the help of the vagus nerve (parasympathetic response). PT Plus offers an Auricular Vagal Nerve Stimulator (AVN) for the treatment of vagus nerve dysfunctions to help keep your nervous system balanced.
|
What to ExpectWe use a microcurrent stimulator placed at a specific location in the ear with special electrodes to access the vagus nerve. This weak current (your body can actually produce stronger currents) stimulates the vagus nerve to establish normal nerve activity. Over time, many of our clients have been able to return to normal function or decrease use of some medications.
Our research shows that use of the AVN combined with physical therapy achieves the best results. |
